As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design and build scalable and robust systems that enable and support our new free-to-play game in Unreal Engine.  

Reports to

You will report to the Lead Backend Engineer. 

What will you do?

  • Design and build scalable and robust systems that enable and support our game 
  • Gather and analyze requirements together with other stakeholders 
  • Lead and mentor junior colleagues 
  • Help develop deployment infrastructure 
  • Work together with game developers, DevOps engineers, and producers 

What are we looking for?

  • Hands-on experience of designing and developing microservice architectures to produce scalable, maintainable backend systems 
  • Kotlin Proficiency, including familiarity with Spring Boot and/or its alternatives 
  • Good understanding of RDBMS, NoSQL databases 
  • Experience with real-time communication protocols (WebSockets, gRPC etc), and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ etc)
  • Experience with test-driven development with a high level of quality 
  • Experience of developing game backend architectures (state management, real-time player interactions, high load); systems that support matchmaking, leaderboards, and in-game economies etc 
  • Independent, analytical and a high level of ownership 
  • Successfully delivered highly scalable systems into production 
  • Strong communication skills in English
