Our Autistica Partnership
It is widely acknowledged that neurodiversity benefits companies, yet just 22% of autistic people are in employment. We’re working with the charity Autistica to change that. Together we will support research and help every autistic person to be understood and valued, and to live a happy, healthy and long life.
The games industry seems to be embracing neurodiversity more than most. The rates of autistic adults working in games is between three and four times the rate of other sectors; according to the UK Games Industry Census 2020 by Ukie. That’s why DPS Games is partnering with Autistica. We want to harness this diversity and create a sector that fully embraces and supports autistic people.
We couldn’t be more proud to be partnering with DPS Games to lay the foundations for a more inclusive games industry. This is at a time when inclusion has never felt more urgent across all industries. I’m an autistic person myself and I have worked with autistic people in a range of environments for almost 20 years and the work we are doing right now has never been more urgently needed. Having partners like DPS Games means we can fund more vital research to create a more inclusive world for autistic people and their families.
Not only have we engaged with Autistica as a sponsor, but we are also taking part in their DARE (Discover Autism Research Employment) initiative – giving us a complete picture of the neurodiversity in our workforce. We are proud to be the first gaming company in the UK to do so.
We plan to hold many more family-focused, inclusive events that will raise awareness around autism as well as fundraise for the vital research that Autistica conducts. For example, last summer we hosted a virtual fashion show in Animal Crossing and all proceeds went towards their vital work.
DPS Games are pioneers in the games industry and have made a strong commitment to autistic people by partnering with Autistica. Not only as a long-term partner but also as our first Games Industry partner on our employment initiative, DARE. I’m so proud and excited to see the impact we can achieve over the coming years.
We look forward to supporting Autistica with this and more exciting projects in the year to come!
